2024 Paralympics Wraps Up with an Electrifying Finale

With a dazzling display of fireworks, laser beams, breakdancing, and a pulsating set by French electronic music giants, Paris bid farewell to the Paralympic Games on Sunday night with the grandest celebration in its history.

Despite heavy rain, 24 artists from the French electronic music scene created a vibrant party atmosphere at the Stade de France, entertaining over 4,000 athletes from 168 Paralympic delegations. Athletes with physical, visual, and intellectual impairments competed in 22 sports from August 29 to September 8.

As Paris wrapped up its month-long Olympic festivities, the city concluded its summer of sports with the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paralympic Games.

China topped the gold medal table with 94 golds and 29 world records, excelling in sports such as swimming, athletics, and table tennis. Great Britain followed with 49 gold medals, while the United States secured third place with 36 gold medals.

Sri Lanaka in Medal Table

Sergeant Major Samitha Dulan Kodithuwakku of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) earned a silver medal in the men’s F44 javelin throw. Sri Lanka finished in a tie for 75th place with Kenya and Trinidad and Tobago in the medal standings.

As with the Olympic Closing Ceremony, the Paralympic Closing Ceremony featured a handoff to the next host city. Organizers offered a glimpse of what’s to come in Los Angeles for the LA2028 games.
